We use WH questions when we require specific information in an answer.
We often refer to them as WH questions because they include the letters WH: What, Where, When, Why, Who.
Examples:
What is your name?
Where are you from?
When is your birthday?
Who is that man?
Why are you here?

The most common question words in English are:
WHO – used when referring to people: Who is that woman?
WHERE – used when referring to a place or location: Where are you from?
WHEN – used to refer to a time or an occasion: When is your birthday?
WHY – used to obtain an explanation or reason: Why are you here?
WHAT – used to refer to specific information: What is your name?
WHICH – used when a choice needs to be made: Which one is yours?
HOW FAR – refers to distance: HOW FAR is the school from here?
